Models
Find the models available through Elektric and see what each one supports.
#Find available models
Use authenticated GET /v1/models to get the current list of models available to your account. Use the model IDs returned by Elektric rather than copying names from a provider website.
The catalog is the source of truth for model IDs you can use with Wire.
#What a model entry tells you
- Model ID — the ID to use with Wire
- Provider — who provides the model
- Capabilities — what the model can handle
- Supported operations — which Elektric APIs can use it
- Display information — the name and description shown in Elektric, when available
#Model IDs
Public model IDs are Elektric identifiers. Treat them as the names your application uses when selecting a model through Wire.
Do not assume a provider’s marketing name or API name is a valid Elektric model ID.
#Use with Wire
Pass an available public model ID as model. Wire uses that model and does not silently switch to another one.
If the model is unavailable or the request asks for a capability it does not support, the request fails instead of being rerouted.
#How Grid uses models
Grid chooses from models that are currently eligible for the request. You do not select a public model ID when you want Grid to choose.
Use model: "elektric-grid" where the API requires an explicit Grid identifier.
#Capabilities are model-specific
Not every model supports every kind of request. Tools, images, documents, web access, structured output, media, and output limits can vary by model.
Check the capabilities returned by /v1/models before relying on a feature with Wire.
#Models change over time
Models may be added, disabled, or retired as provider availability and Elektric support change. Check GET /v1/models and handle model-unavailable errors before depending on a named model.
Provider availability and Elektric support can change independently.
